We are currently recruiting for a Plate Maker to join our Toronto team!

 

The Plate/Screen maker will follow multiple press schedules, coordinate dockets, and produce plates and screens for multiple press platforms to ensure accurate and timely supply to manufacturing.

 

The hours for this position are: 

Thursday to Sunday, 6:30am - 5:00pm

Responsibilities

  • Checks production schedules for all required jobs, locate/create job dockets and reviews job specifications, and organizes paperwork required. Coordinates workflow with production schedule.
  • Produce printing plates for Flexo printing.
  • Produce Rotary Screens for printing, check for accuracy, and all minimum requirements.
  • Mount new rotary screen onto screen rings.
  • Emulsify, strip, and re-emulsify rotary screens while maintaining process accuracy.
  • Produce screens both with a laser machine and Image film for manual Rotary screens.
  • Continually check all plates and screens for accuracy and all minimum requirements.
  • Check final digital files and proofs for accuracy before imaging or releasing to production.
  • Support the preventative maintenance program for all plate room equipment.
  • Continually participate in 5S to keep equipment & department clean and in order.
  • Complete tests for the life expectancy of bulbs and back exposures of plates.
  • Request plate and screen-related materials as needed to ensure all consumables do not run low.
  • Receive plates and dockets back from production, inspect them for signs of damage or wear, and then file for future retrieval and use. Prepare new plate dockets as required.
  • The employee will be required to work with plate and screen chemicals daily.
  • Adhere to all company Health and Safety practices policies and procedures.
  • Follow Quality policies and GMP procedures.
  • Support all company programs with the aid of the manager and lead hand.
  • Regularly learn new processes and update skills as required.
  • Support other departments and fill in when necessary (alternate shifts may be required).
  • Remain flexible for overtime work with short notice, and consistently comply with all standard operating procedures.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Language Skills

  • Proficient in understanding and interpreting instructions, correspondence, and memos to effectively carry out tasks.
  • Capable of composing simple and clear correspondence for internal.
  • Able to articulate information confidently and clearly in both one-on-one interactions and small group settings when communicating with fellow employees.

Mathematical Skills

  • Skilled in performing basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals across various units of measure.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting rulers, scales, and other measurement devices accurately.

 Reasoning Ability

  • Proficient in applying practical and logical understanding to execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram format effectively.
  • Capable of addressing challenges involving multiple tangible factors within established parameters, utilizing sound judgment and problem-solving techniques.

 Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands for handling, and reach with arms.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Occasionally required to sit and communicate verbally.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Will work with plate and screen chemicals on a daily basis.
  • Adherence to safe practices and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

Work Environment

  • The employee may be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals may occur.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • One (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Manufacturing experience and/or experience in the Print and Label industry will be considered an asset.
