We are seeking an experienced Estimator/Customer Service Specialist to join our team! This role involves analyzing product specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate estimates of time, cost, and labor for all printed label products. The ideal candidate should have previous estimating experience in a printing or packaging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
  • Calculate cost factors and prepare estimates for management purposes, including planning, organizing, scheduling work, and preparing bids.
  • Review previous pricing models and related cost factors for repeat items, adjusting to reflect changes in raw materials, labor, freight, and other costs.
  • Determine current pricing for existing items where product specifications have not changed.
  • Coordinate efforts with Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, and other departments to gather data on costs associated with art changes, plate charges, pre-press time requirements, finishing time requirements, and other costs related to complex RFPs (Requests for Proposals).
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs with actual costs and identify reasons for discrepancies.
  • Provide recommendations for improving cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
  • Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
  • Communicate directly with internal and external customers to collect information regarding customer specifications and product needs.
  • Receive purchase orders from customers via email, fax, or telephone. Review all aspects of the order before accepting and confirming it.
  • Process new purchase orders into the system specific to the individual job and customer, including any delivery or shipping requirements. Notify all relevant plant personnel of special orders related to purchasing, production, or rush orders, while maintaining clear and effective communication.
  • Route supplies, job jackets, and materials such as paste-ups, artwork, copy, film, or prints to the appropriate work areas to initiate production.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints promptly, demonstrating excellent service and thorough follow-through.
  • Prioritize workload as necessary, selecting from several alternatives to best meet the business’s needs.
  • Receive tickets for shipped or delivered products and begin the billing process, verifying the shipping report against packing lists and reviewing the Customer Transaction Report.
  • Consistently, they aim to exceed customer expectations and ensure their needs are met.

Qualifications

  • BA preferred, however, an associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent to a two-year college or technical school; and two to four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Relevant experience working in a printing or packaging environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Show clear skills in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from managers, sales representatives, and co-workers.
  • Strong working knowledge of how to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, rulers, scales, and other measurement devices.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
