Overview

We are currently recruiting an experienced Pre Press Supervisor to join our Toronto team! 

 

This Supervisor role will be instrumental in driving efficiency and quality within the RLGC Art department. Working alongside the Prepress Manager, this hands-on role demands a mix of advanced technical skills, leadership qualities, and a comprehensive understanding of the printing process to ensure that the Art Dept. supplies quality and error free work to both our internal and external customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Team Management: Direct and mentor the Art team. Responsibilities include full Art staff supervision, maintaining regular day-to-day activities, following & creating schedules, assigning tasks/projects, conducting yearly performance reviews, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain, support and improve technical advancements in the Art Dept. including Esko, GMG Colour Management, plus any other further technology advancements required.
  • Quality Control: Implement and oversee a rigorous quality assurance program within the Art Process and any associated processes. This involves conducting detailed inspections, ensuring adherence to print specifications, aa well as both troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Workflow Optimization: Streamline departmental processes to maximize efficiency. This involves analyzing current workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly contribute to RLGC’s continuous improvement program and assisting the Prepress Manager in implementing new policies and procedures within the dept. This includes creating, documenting, and maintaining all Art Dept. standard SOP’s, WI’s, and Forms. Regularly participation in the Art Dept. KPI program. As well as making regular advancements in RLGC’s GMG Colour Management program. (ie: Profiling, employee training, etc...), ensuring that RLGC excels in colour excellence and the most progressive and reliable Prepress support.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all Art Dept. Computers, Software’s, Printers, etc. are maintained to the highest standards, scheduling regular service checks and managing repairs as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Uphold all safety protocols and environmental regulations under Occupational Health Safety Act (OHSA) of Ontario. Conduct regular training sessions on safety practices and ensure the team complies with industry standards.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Customers, Sales, Customer Service, Production Planning, Scheduling and Production, sharing information on project timelines, and material requirements.
  • Training: Maintain regular and required graphics artist’s employee training, as required.
  • Inventory Control: Ensure all consumables and supplies used within the Art Dept. are regularly monitored and ordered as required to ensure that production and schedules are not affected and always considering cost conscious alternatives.
  • Special Projects: Provided leading support to any special Projects may be requested and assigned by the General Manager, Prepress Manager, as required.

The Supervisor is pivotal in ensuring that the Art department operates at peak efficiency, producing high-quality output that meets client expectations and contributes significantly to the company's overall success.

  • Develop production schedules to optimize time and personnel.
  • Make critical decisions on exposure and plate process adjustments for quality.
  • Frequently meet tight deadlines and requests, and occasionally respond to emergency situations.
  • Work environment may include loud noise in the Production facility.
  • Capable of working in high-pressure situations while remaining calm and professional.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Graphics, Printing Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: At least five years in the print industry. Experience in a supervisory role would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in specific Art software and an in-depth understanding of various printing processes, and strong proficiency in software related to Prepress.
  • Proven ability in managing teams, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Must have an advanced understanding and use Esko software (ver.22+)
  • Must understand and have experience in Flexo, Digital, Litho & Hybrid printing.
  • Must have advanced skills working in a Mac platform using the Adobe Creative Suite (Specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite softwares), ArtPro.
  • Knowledge with EFI Radius ERP would be an asset.
  • Effective communication skills in order to understand, assign work, and request assistance from co-workers and Prepress Manager.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software for some special projects.
  • Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
  • Analytical ability and creative problem solving / troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Workflow and Process Improvement considered as asset.
  • Health and Safety must be an everyday mindset.
  • Flexibility to work weekends as per business needs
